How is Lisa's life going? It's hard to say! Twenty-nine years old and the first grey hairs have already sprouted. She still has no certainty in life: part-time jobs, waste-time love affairs and an absent, dysfunctional family. On an ordinary day, an unknown number contacts her on her mobile phone. After fourteen years, someone important to her comes back into her life, asking her for a decisive meeting. Director's Statement “Comunque Bene” (as like “however fine”) is the answer we are often used to giving when someone asks us how things are going. We are aware that things are not going well, but all things considered, they are fine. The ‘however fine’ is a fragile condition, it can be suddenly upset by just the ringing of a phone or the voice of someone we haven't heard from in a long time. This story is about a meeting, that between a father and a daughter, Claudio and Lisa, who after a long time are confronted with old emotions. I drew some inspiration from my own private life. I had an alternating bond with my father, made up of distances and fleeting encounters, often in places inappropriate for such an intimate moment, such as stations or airports. This is why I chose to set the meeting between Lisa and Claudio in an American Diner, a cheerful and surreal place. In this context, Lisa realises that everything around her seems more interesting and less painful than her father's words. She realises that he does not really want to have her in his life, and her decision to leave becomes a way of accepting that perhaps it is fine.
