Directors' Statement Mother is a Natural Sinner explores family as a construct and way of living that each society, western or non-western, prescribes to the individuals. What does family mean in the context of restrictive social norms? How do heteronormative ideas influence the designs of family structures and the sexual identities of individuals? Although deciding what family means should be a personal choice, it also becomes a political one, as decisions of individuals influence social norms and shape our societies. By constantly blurring the line between the fictional and the autobiographical, we attempt to use our real-life experiences of trauma and memory to create a poetic narrative. By doing this, we hope to show the complex and emotional layers of what family can mean in different contexts.
